Motor-Stadt Region Gimmick Rally: Getting to Know Clinton and Gratiot Counties

8/23/2025 Motor-Stadt Region Gimmick Rally
Getting to Know Clinton and Gratiot Counties
(a tour of historical markers)
It is getting close to cut-off time for this event. I will be closing registration Thursday evening. This is necessary so that I can give the final destination information on the number of attendees. If you think you are going to come, please register here.
WHAT IS IT: This event is a treasure hunt of sorts. You will be driving from historical marker to historical marker and answering questions based on the marker information. It is an opportunity to learn about the history of this area. There is no time/speed/distance element to this event. The main purpose is to enjoy the drives, even though some are longer and boring.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE: This event will take three to four hours, depending on several factors. Such as if you find the signs right away, how fast you read, how long you discuss the answer with your car occupants, bathroom breaks, etc.
The total driving distance is 125 miles, and the estimated driving time is 2 hours and 39 minutes, with no stops.
STARTING TIME: Since this is a longer event, I wanted to start early. Also, cars will depart at intervals so that there is some space in between them. We don’t want a line just following the leader. This interval will be determined by the number of cars registered.
I have set the start time for 9:00am and hope the first car is out of the lot by 9:15.
STARTING LOCATION: The starting point is the Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools, 5101 Clintonia Rd, Westphalia, MI 48894. We will gather at the east side of the back parking lot.
ENDING LOCATION: Depends on how well you follow the directions. If you arrive at the right place, there is a restaurant that we will meet at. Here is a clue – I’m from Colorado and really like a ski resort town just off I70 on Hwy 9.
OTHER IMPORTANT FACTS:
- There are no rest rooms at the starting location, but there are many along the way. If there is a facility at a stop, it will be mentioned in the instructions.
- Arrive with plenty of gas. As mentioned, the route is 125 miles. There are gas stations along the way.
- You should bring a clipboard and a pen/pencil. You will have to write the answers to the questions on the instruction sheet.
- The most important thing about this event is to RELAX, HAVE FUN and LEARN SOMETHING.
