Special Porsche Weekend this Summer

Special Porsche Weekend this Summer
Mark your calendars on July 15 – 16 for a special Porsche weekend of activities right here in Southeastern Michigan. There will be 3 marque automotive events and we are expecting some 100+ Porsches from Zone 4 to join us for various activities. For our out-of-town guests, we’ve secured room blocks at several local hotels. This should be a great weekend to socialize and enjoy fellow PCA and prospective PCA members in Ann Arbor.
Last summer several of us in the RSR region got together and discussed how nice it would be to have a gathering of some 100+ Porsches across the Southeastern Michigan; Ohio, and Indiana regions, effectively Zone 4. This was ahead of Luftgekuhlt in Indianapolis; Concourse De Elegance in Detroit and we reminisced about other cool car gatherings that were memorable while wondering if we could do the same. We kept trying to come up with ideas for a location that would hold a large number of cars and how to construct this type of event that would be unique and inspire our Zone 4 PCA members to attend. And so, the wheels began to turn in terms of planning and with the local PCA board approval, we are announcing “Porsches in the Park” on July 16th.
Introducing “Porsches in the Park” on July 16th: [1:30 – 9:30 pm] We’ve secured a great local venue, German Park, just north of Ann Arbor that can easily hold over 100+ Porsches and a German band along with a catered dinner from The Produce Station. We’ll start in the early afternoon with a Time Speed Distance Gimmick Rally and have grouped driving tours in the mid-afternoon. Before dinner everyone is invited to participate in a “People’s Choice” car judging with different categories and prizes. Dinner includes a very nice arrangement of appetizers, London broil, chicken, pasta, salads, and deserts. Hagerty Insurance and the United Spinal Association of Southern Michigan are the current sponsors with more expected. The entry fee for everything is $60 / person with an opportunity to purchase a commemorative tee-shirt for $20. This will be a fun gathering of Porsche’s, car activities, music, and dancing and most importantly fellowship with other Porsche owners from Zone 4. Rolling Sculpture 2022 on July 15th: [2 – 9pm]. This is a special event that always generates a memorable evening of seeing all kinds of cars (some 250+ cars) in downtown Ann Arbor with the streets blocked off. Porsches have a big turnout each year and our past Rally Sport Region President, Tim Pott, sits on the committee. If you have not been or are not familiar with Rolling Sculpture its worth visiting. Rolling Sculpture is open and free to the public. If you want to show your car there is a $35 registration fee which benefits the Ann Arbor Main Street Area Association and you must print and send with a postmark no later than June 17. To register for Rolling Sculpture please see https://mainstreetannarbor.org/rolling-sculpture (Please note, if you want to show your car, plan on arriving before 2pm as they stage the parking in the streets).
Ann Arbor Cars and Coffee on July 16th: (7:30 – 9:00am) This is the 10th year of the Ann Arbor Cars and Coffee season which is held at Zingerman’s Roadhouse on Jackson Rd just west of downtown. This event started with a bunch of the local Rally Sport Region Porsche Club members and now has some 150+ cars each month. It meets on the 3rd Saturday of every month and there is always great people and fantastic coffee and breakfast. https://www.facebook.com/AnnArborCarsAndCoffee
So, in summary the Special Porsche Weekend has lots of options for everyone. For our out-of-town guests, we’ve arranged a special discounted hotel room block at three local hotels (Sheraton Ann Arbor; Residence Inn; Hampton Inn – West; you can find hotel registration links on https://rsp.pca.org/bs/events/porsches-in-the-park/). On Friday night make sure you pre-registered and park your car at Rolling Sculpture in downtown Ann Arbor. On Saturday grab a cup of Coffee at Ann Arbor Cars and Coffee and join us right after lunch at our inaugural “Porsches in the Park” with your significant other for an evening of fun. The weekend should be very memorable and I can’t wait to see everyone there.
