Porsches to Oxford 2007
July 27-28-29

I drove my 1985 Carrera 2 1/2 hours South from Lansing to Oxford, Ohio this weekend to attend Porsches to Oxford (P2O) 'A casual porsche party'. I arrived Friday evening and skipped the cocktail reception in favor of a hotel bed. Saturday morning was cloudy and rainy, but there were already cars parked in the designated area in downtown Oxford by 6:30 AM. Porsches continued to arrive in a mostly steady stream until about noon or so. I do not have a final car count yet, but there were over 310 cars parked on the brick streets of downtown Oxford before the event was over.

The concept was 'a casual porsche party'. There was a people's choice car show and some awards at the end, but the event was about talking to others with the 'Porsche Affliction' and looking at all the great cars. All models were well represented and even the most common cars had something about them to take an interest in. The farthest drive was won by a car from Minnesota (a Florida car registered, but never showed). Michigan was not well represented, with only about five cars at the event.

The cars...oh, the cars! 356C, Beck Spyder, 911 soft-window targa, 997 GT3 RS, 968 Cab, 964 RS, 996 GT2, 993 Turbo, 930 Slant Nose, Boxsters in any color and several Caymans come to mind. Oh ya, and a impact bumper 911 painted with a huge green dragon to support the Dayton Dragons baseball team.

The facilities were excellent. Oxford is a college town (Miami of Ohio) so there were lots of places to eat right on the main street. I was lucky to park in front of a Coldstone Creamery store. (So sue me, it was hot!) Registration was under a band shell in a park, right in the middle of things. A nearby Porsche dealer was selling Porsche designed merchandise at a discount. Griot's Garage was also there, demonstrating and selling products. There were lots of door prizes and I won a lighted Porsche sign. I really needed one of the six TomTom GPS units they gave away, but my luck ran out there. Mid-Ohio Raceway donated a driver school course that I felt i needed more than the lady that won that too.

The President of PCA spoke briefly and after the show awards I left for home at about 4:00 PM. As I was leaving, some of the cars were going on a short scenic cruise. On Sunday a longer tour was arrainged to be led by a company that does that sort of thing all over the country.

I intend to return next year and I hope I can persuade others in Motor-Stadt to join me. Bill, the 911 ran flawlessly and I had many compliments. Thanks.

Bill Campbell's Reply: It sounds like it was a lot of fun! We (Sandy & I)were all set to go and couldn't at the last minute. Hopefully we can make it next year. It's already on my calender. I'm glad you are enjoying the car. Thanks for the nice write up and the photos!
